What is a Timezone?
A timezone is a region of the globe that observes a uniform standard time for legal, commercial, and social purposes. Most timezones are offset from Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) by a whole number of hours (from UTC-12:00 to UTC+14:00), though a few are offset by 30 or 45 minutes (such as India’s IST - UTC+05:30 or Nepal’s NPT - UTC+05:45).
Many regions observe Daylight Saving Time (DST), shifting their clocks forward by one hour during summer months to make better use of evening daylight.
IANA Timezone Database
This tool uses the standard IANA (Internet Assigned Numbers Authority) timezone names, which are structured as Area/Location (e.g. America/New_York, Europe/London, Asia/Tokyo). This format automatically tracks historical changes and Daylight Saving Time transitions for each specific city.
How to Use
- Set Source Time: Select the reference Date, Time, and Source Timezone. The default is set to your browser’s current local date, time, and timezone.
- Shift Time Quickly: Use the incremental buttons (
-1 Hour,+1 Hour,-1 Day,+1 Day) to slide the time forwards or backwards. This is perfect for aligning meeting slots. - Compare Multiple Locations: Add target timezones from the search dropdown. They will appear in a listing comparing each timezone’s converted time, offset, day difference, and local time status (e.g., whether it is late night, working hours, or morning there).
- Copy & Share: Copy individual converted times, or export the entire comparison list as a clean text summary.
